Anthony Leitz-Sanfelippo

Anthony J. Leitz-Sanfelippo, age 64, of Ripon, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009, at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac after a 14 month battle with cancer. Tony was born May 24, 1945, in Milwaukee, the son of Dr. Anthony J. Sanfelippo and Lorraine (Connelly) Sanfelippo.
Tony graduated from Marquette University High School of Milwaukee, Marquette University in 1967, and Marquette University Law School with a Juris Doctor in 1972. He was admitted to practice law in Wisconsin and the Eastern and Western Federal District Courts. He was a corporate attorney for Pabst Brewing Company 1972 to 1975 in Milwaukee. He was the Fond du Lac County Court Commissioner from 1988 to 1994, and an adjunct professor at Marion University, where he taught Business Law and Sports Law. He remained in private practice as an attorney and counselor in law with an emphasis in corporate business law and family law until his retirement. In 1990, Tony was a member of a delegation of 14 judges and lawyers from the United States to the Soviet Union, where he advised Soviet lawyers, judges, and Ministers of Justice in matters of U.S. family law.
From 1969 to 1971, Tony served in the military at Fort Campbell, KY, and Camp Casey, Korea. While in the service, he designed and instructed a course for newly-appointed military law specialists entering the service at the army at divisional headquarters. This course became the accepted instructional material for military law specialists in that sector and caused him to be awarded the army commendation medal. He was a member of the Judge Advocate General Corps.
Tony was a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association. He was elected to the Fond du Lac Common Council, to the Fond du Lac Police and Fire Commission, and to the Board of Directors of the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter. He was a member of Our Savior’s United Church of Christ, where he served on several committees and volunteered in the audio/visual department.
On February 25, 1997, Tony married Jacalyn Leitz in the Parish of St. Ann, Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Following his marriage, he changed his name to Anthony J. Leitz-Sanfelippo to share his wife’s surname.
Survivors include his wife, Jacalyn Leitz-Sanfelippo; brother, Dr. John (Debbie) Sanfelippo of Jefferson City, MO; sister, Dr. Mary Lu Sanfelippo-Lilley and her husband, Dr. John Lilley of Escondido, CA; children, Joseph (Andrea) Sanfelippo and their children Aiden, Kale, and Alena, of Eau Claire; daughter, Courtney Sanfelippo of Long Island, NY; stepson, Joel Malak (Jenny Hart) and their daughter Addy of Brooklyn, WI; stepdaughter, Jill (Jim) Bakken of Madison, WI; stepdaughter, Janelle Malak of Brooklyn, NY; sister- and brother-in-law, June and Steve Petersen of Waupaca, WI; sister- and brother-in-law, Jill and Richard Lodle of Burlington, WI; and brother-in-law, Jay Leitz of Ripon. Also survived by aunts, uncles, and other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Jacob and Irene Leitz of Ripon.
Throughout his life, Tony lived his life to the fullest and brought joy to the lives of everyone around him. He traveled through his journey and struggle with dignity, humor, and courage. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness, sense of humor, and his warm and welcoming smile. He will be forever missed by all those who loved him.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Dr. Lambert, Dr. Wong and the entire Central Wisconsin Cancer Center staff in Fond du Lac, as well as the Hospice Home of Hope for their excellent care and compassion.
At Tony’s request, cremation services have taken place, and there will be a private family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, Our Saviour’s Church, or the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter.
