Andrew Michael Voss was born July 20, 1997 in Oshkosh WI, and passed away on April 3, 2026 in Ripon WI. He grew up in Ripon where he graduated from Lumen Charter High School. Following graduation, he studied videography and biology in Madison and worked as a manager at Bishops Bay Country Club for over six years -- a job well suited to his tireless energy for connecting with people. He had recently moved back to Ripon to pursue his passion for carpentry, starting up his own home improvement business.
Andrew’s greatest childhood mentor was his grandfather, Kim Ownby, who shared with Andrew his kindness and his enthusiasm for woodworking, shooting, hunting, playing guitar, tinkering with everything, and cars -- especially cars, including his 1999 Porsche Boxster convertible. After Kim passed away, Andrew continued to drive the Porsche while listening to his grandfather’s CDs, saying, “When I drive this, I feel like Grandpa is sitting next to me.”
From the time he could walk, Andrew had a lively and broad-ranging curiosity. He loved to make and fix and figure things out, often with the help of YouTube. He was adventuresome, trying out all kinds of new projects and hobbies. He loved the outdoors, camping with friends in the north woods, sleeping in hammocks hung from trees, and exploring the Rockies. He also played tennis and swam with the swim team.
During his middle and high school years, he was part of a group of boys known for epic paintball parties, video making, extraordinary production and consumption of pancakes, “guitar walks” to serenade people all over town and elaborate practical jokes. They once shoveled a whole lawn-full of snow ONTO a favorite teacher’s driveway. (They rang his doorbell to see his reaction and then shoveled it all off again.) Once they used an entire 30-pound bag of flour in a shirtless marathon of bread-making.
Andrew wasn’t only popular among his peers -- he was much enjoyed by their parents too! He was charming and gallant, complimenting middle-aged moms and not treating them as inherently uncool parental appendages of his buddies. He was generous with hugs and went effortlessly back and forth between formal address and “Hey, Mom!”
Andrew was reflexively kind and generous, once arriving home barefoot because he had given his shoes away to someone who needed them more than he did. In the last year of his life, he spent untold hours plowing out the driveways of friends and acquaintances when it snowed.
Andrew was a people person, ever eager to connect, and warm and positive at an age where many peers preferred to be cool and cynical. He was a great talker and an equally good listener. He approached conversations with humor and curiosity, never afraid to share ideas, even if they were still forming. He was not always encumbered by the truth and he sometimes ventured opinions whether he knew what he was talking about or not, but he could keep up a lively verbal volley with anyone and he was often the beating heart of a conversation. His warm, genuine interest in others made him the connective tissue in any group he was part of.
Andrew’s spirit will always be remembered in the lives of those he touched.
Andrew is survived by his grandmother, Miriam Ownby of Ripon, WI; parents, Robin and Mark Wolzenburg of Fitchburg, WI; brothers, Ethan Voss of Middleton, WI and Finn Luaders- Wolzenburg of Oshkosh, WI; sister, Estelle Luaders-Wolzenburg of Oshkosh, WI; aunt, Meredith Ownby of Madison, WI; and cousins, Samaria Ownby, Isaac Harrison and Grace Harvey of Madison, WI.
Andrew’s celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Federated Church, 489 Scott St., Green Lake, WI, 54941. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
